Why choose us for Bass?

An essential link between the rhythm of the drums and the melody and harmony of the lead instruments, the bass player is an important part of any band. At many music schools bass is taught as an afterthought but we take it as seriously as any other instrument. All our bass lessons are taught by working bassists who play bass as their first instrument. 

 

We teach all aspects of bass technique from finger-style to playing with a pick and on to slap. Along the way you will learn how to follow written music, learn all of the essential music theory that bass players need to know, and come to really understand rhythm and how to fulfil your role in a band situation. You will also learn a tonne of great songs and classic basslines!

We welcome students of all ages and abilities at Music Lessons Derby. Beginner to advanced, we can help you progress. We have students from children to retirees so you are not too young or too old to get going! 

 

Because basses are quite big to hold we would recommend young starters are around age 10 or over depending on their size.

Our teachers will shape your lessons to suit your individual needs. We use the Trinity College London Rock & Pop syllabus with many of our students which is a great path to learning an instrument. You will learn all of the technique and theory that you need while studying loads of great songs from the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Mark Ronson, The Beatles, Queen, Rage Against The Machine, Stevie Wonder and many more fantastic artists.

Some students choose to take grading exams at the end of each stage, and as we are the Trinity exam centre for Derbyshire we can provide all of the support needed if you choose to take them. These are globally-recognised qualifications and at Grade 6 and above carry UCAS points that can be used to meet further education requirements. However, taking grades is not essential and you can choose to set your own individual goals with your teacher if you prefer; you might have a specific aim of learning a certain technique or style of music, or just want to be able to play a few songs!

All of our teachers are Grade 8 standard or above, DBS checked and fully insured. All lessons take place at our dedicated teaching studio in Derby City Centre where we teach hundreds of students every week.
